Video Game Addiction Warning Signs and how to help

If your a parent or have a friend and you think someone has a video game addiction you only want to get them help faster before it gets worse. First warning sign can be playing for increasing amounts of time, this is when someone is playing four hours or more on the computer. Second, thinking about gaming during other activities. For example, this is way kids grades in school are increasingly dropping because all there attention is on the video game and not on school work. Third, gaming to escape from real-life problems, anixety, or depression. Fourth, lying to friends and family to conceal gaming and your friends and family know you have a problem and you still hide it, and last feeling irritable when trying to cut down on gaming. When addicts try to limit there gaming you may notice them becoming more angry and sometimes violent.

Video game detox is an option and is similar to other detox with other additions. Its hard to get someone away from the computer because computers is important part of the every day life. It's like a food addiction, you have to learn to live with food. Detox centers try to make addicts understand to use the computer responsibility.

Signs of Video Game Addiction

When I was 15 years old and it was the summer before junior year I was obsessed with playing a game called Runescape. All I wanted to do was play that game all day and night. Runescape required a lot of time and patience, and that's what I gave it. The beginning of the two months playing it I never thought I was beginning to get addicted to this game. My family and friends tried their hardest to get me and do other things I refused to do. I would began to get angry with everyone who complained about me playing the game, I would lose track of time, often not even care what time it was, lack of control, meaning I wouldn't care how long I was on the game for. After looking back it ruined my summer. I didn't hang out with any of my friends, didn't have any fun. I only spent my time in the computer chair.

Are you or know someone who is addicted to video games? There are some helpful signs that can help you notice. 1) Your always happy when you are on the computer, and when you get off you are now upset and angry. 2) You think about going on the computer or playing a game when you should be focusing on something else such as, school work, family dinners, or work. 3) You spend more time with the keyboard then hanging out with your friends. 4) Friends or family ask you what you spend most of your time doing, and you laugh it off. 5) You get up in the middle of the night to get on the computer because you can't sleep. These are a few ways to know you are getting addicted to video gaming.

From my experience being a addicted to a video game sucked the life out of me. It's not fun and takes over your life. If you are feeling like you or you know someone is addicted to games there are ways to help you from not being addicted.

I-Search Topic: Video Game Addiction

In my college English class, we had to decide on a topic we would like to do our I-Search papers on. My choice happened to be video game addiction. I however have experienced this addiction and it was hard to get myself off runescape. Today I do not play any games besides sims social on Facebook, but many of my friends who are boys spend their everyday lives playing video games. Many of people don't believe they have this ridiculous addiction. Like me, I never thought I had a problem until I realized I wasted my whole summer on one game. Playing runescape was fun but I regret it. I never went out, hung out with my friends, I was very pale, and I never wanted to leave my own house.

From this research I hope to actually find out how many teens are affected from this. I feel like this can take a huge part in someone's life. I have seen a few people drop out of school due to video games. Weekly I will have more blogs on what I have learned new from this addiction!
